Mission: Our thriving ministry brings together multiple churches and hundreds of volunteers from diverse backgrounds. We share one Canteen truck and a common purpose: to serve the homeless and working poor by providing food, clothing, hygiene products, and other basic necessities. While our fundamental mission is to feed the hungry, our broader purpose is to empower individuals to serve their communities with compassion and love.
In total LFRI’s twelve member churches, with the help of many loyal volunteers, have conducted 325 vehicle delivery runs in 2024. The following is a summary of these deliveries:
Canteen Truck. We did 116 Saturday and Sunday noon truck runs to Woonsocket and Providence, serving on average 95 persons per run.
Volunteer Vehicles. We did 176 car type drop ship deliveries to soup kitchens and homeless shelters in Rhode Island. This included deliveries to The Mathewson Street Church, Emmanual House, McAuley Village and more.
Adopt a School Program. 26 of the above runs were to elementary and middle schools in the East Providence and East Greenwich areas, providing food, clothing and books for needy school children. We served numerous children on each of these school runs.
Youth Center Deliveries. Each Friday noon in the summer volunteer family lunch deliveries were made to youth centers in Providence. This included 7 runs via our canteen truck serving 60 youth per run.
The above deliveries were made possible by the donations and grant funds we received. If you would like to support our continuation of the above efforts, please consider a tax-exempt donation to our non-profit 501(c)(3) Loaves & Fishes Rhode Island. You can do so via PayPal on our website at www.lfri.org or by mail, checks made out to LFRI, and mailed 1520 Broad Street, Providence, RI 02905, attention Bill Aldrich.
